MBioLIMS 24.2

2024-10-04

We're delighted to present the latest updates and enhancements to MBioLIMS. This page describes the new features and changes we've made to give you an even better experience. Find out what's in store for you in this version and how it can benefit your use.

General

  • We have merged LimsLab and SampleManager into a single, unified application: previously, LimsLab was dedicated to tracking patients and sample collections, while SampleManager focused solely on sample tracking. We have combined the strengths of both applications into one cohesive platform: MBioLIMS. This integration allows users to manage studies with patients and studies without patients seamlessly within the same application*, providing a more efficient and comprehensive sample management solution. For SampleManager users, we no longer use the term project, but rather study.

  • Managing consents required for shipping samples has never been easier. We no longer rely on the collection itself for consent verification. Instead, we are using a new field: "Shipping Reason" that needs to be configured and serve as the basis for consent checks during the shipping process. By using the "Shipping Reason" field, you can ensure that all necessary permissions are in place before samples are shipped, streamlining your workflow and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Access our brand new help center via the help button in the navigation bar, where you'll find all MBioLIMS documentation online! Additionally, we've optimized the navigation bar to save vertical space.

  • The "Configure application settings" page now allows administrators to customize various application elements.

  • It is now possible to query the passage number in the tube search, sample search and advanced search.

  • For more consistency, we have renamed all "Internal code" to "ID".

  • Underscore.js library upgraded to version 1.13.7.

  • The search pages "Select tubes by available volumes" and "Select tubes by patient and sample type" have been removed.

Storage

  • It is now possible to share storage between different sites. This option makes better use of storage resources by allowing multiple teams to share storage locations. "Site" containers are no longer mandatory in the storage tree, giving you more flexibility in its configuration. You can also configure one or more owner sites on a container, allowing you to share any level of the storage tree.

  • "View storage" rights are now required to access items on another site in the "Storage" tab.

  • Container display is now faster when moving from one position to another.

  • The "Other info" button in the storage tree has been removed.

Custom Field

  • Custom fields with clickable links can now be created.

  • Custom fields can now be designated as unique, ensuring no duplicate values across elements.

  • Custom fields can now be added to the sample sheet based on type, genus, or species conditions of the selected strain.

Patient

  • It is now possible to prevent the new entry of a consent version from the “Manage consent models” administration page.

  • Consent models for a study are now shown in both the inclusion panel of the patient form and the consent panel on the patient inclusion page for easier new consent version entry.

Reception

  • To enhance user experience, we have reorganized buttons on the reception page.

Study

  • Non-administrator users can now view the page visit type.

  • Study names can now include up to 200 characters.

Sample Collection

  • It is now possible to set default values for expected samples custom fields in a visit type.

  • It is now possible to enter up to 4,000 characters in sample collection comments.

Strain

  • It is now possible to switch between two taxonomy display modes: "tree view" and "simple search", the latter now including custom fields applied to the species.

  • The "Update species in batch" feature now enables changing species across all linked samples.

  • Taxonomy items now offer flexible reorganization, allowing reclassification during creation and editing phases.

Transformation

  • Custom fields with propagated values are removed from the transformation creation page.

Shipping

  • The shipping ID is now displayed on search pages for shipped items.

  • The "Manage threshold for sample type" page has been removed.

Internal Transfer

  • The site of origin of the internal transfer is now the site of the transferred tubes and no longer the user's site.

  • A new "Internal Transfer Request" section added to the Shipping tab for improved unification.

Advanced Querry

  • Empty tubes (not linked to any sample) are no longer returned in Advanced Querry.

Statistics

  • For all new projects, statistics are now available in English only.

Reports

  • It is no longer possible to generate a report on a study, existing reports having been migrated to the files linked to your study.

  • New view (RPR_CSF_ASSAY_VIEW) introduced for querying custom fields on assays.

  • The assay view (RPR_ASSAY_VIEW) has been improved to return all assay results. Values that are not yet entered are returned as empty (null)

  • With the changes made to storage, we have removed the SITE_ID and SITE_NAME columns from the RPR_STORAGE_UTILISATION_VIEW.

Non-Compliance

  • We have now added the tube study to the tube non-compliance search page.

Directory

  • Users without a global admin role can now manage contacts.

  • The sample category field can now be printed on tube labels.

User Account

  • User account login minimum length is now 3 characters.

Import / Export

  • It is now possible to import aliquotings via the legacy data import.

  • HL7-linked patients can now be imported via pivot files.

  • It is now possible to save workflows and default custom field values applied to samples in the “Visit type - expected samples” import/export settings. We have also removed the labels from this file.

  • The pivot file import feature has been renamed to “Import legacy data”.

API - Webhook

  • Study insertion endpoints now require a study type (studyType.id). Access it via the new endpoint: GET /api/study_types. The study type field is specified when retrieving one or more studies.
